About Takayama-Hokuriku Tourist Pass

The Takayama-Hokuriku Tourist Pass (valid for 5 days) is a great and affordable way to travel via train around the Takayama-Hokuriku region. Get free seat reservations and unlimited rides on all JR Conventional lines. The Takayama-Hokuriku Tourist Pass also grants you access to certain buses, the Hokuriku Shinkansen (additional fee required for seat reservation), limited express, express and rapid trains. Do note that the pass does not allow access to the Tokaido Shinkansen from Kyoto to Shin-Osaka station.

This is a rail pass that allows unlimited rides during the valid period in ordinary car non-reserved seats on subject trains, etc. within the free travel sections connecting Kansai Airport, the Kansai area, the Hokuriku area, Takayama, and Nagoya. It can be used up to six times for ordinary car reserved seats on subject trains.

With the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen between Kanazawa and Tsuruga, the bus routes which can be used for convenient sightseeing within the free travel sections will be expanded.

Exchange orders that were purchased, and tickets that were reserved or purchased, on or before March 15, 2024, are subject to the following transitional handling.
• For products that can be used on the Hokuriku Line between Tsuruga and Kanazawa, the user may use the Hokuriku Shinkansen (between Tsuruga and Kanazawa) in place of the Hokuriku Line where the ticket was originally valid on and after March 16 without paying an additional charge
within the valid period.
* The section which will be transferred to Hapi-Line Fukui and IR Ishikawa Railway (between Tsuruga and Kanazawa) cannot be used on and after March 16. However, as a special case,when using the JR Etsumihoku Line, the Hapi-Line Fukui (between Fukui and Echizen-Hanando) may be used as long as the customer passes through without disembarking. 

After booking online, you can collect your Japan Rail Pass Exchange Order (EO) on the collection date and at the preferred Changi Recommends booth indicated during your booking process. Japan Rail Pass (JR Pass) is a personal train ticket granting you access to most of the major Japan Railways (JR) train lines. This excludes some of the high-speed trains such as Nozomi and Mizuho Shinkansen. Travellers can get unlimited rides to various locations like Hokkaido, Tokyo,Nagoya,Osaka, Shikoku and Kyushu by utilising this pass.

Note: Please remember to enter your full name (as shown in your passport) at the point of booking for your JR Pass.

We will not be responsible if you have provided the wrong information at the point of booking. For pass reissuance requests prior to departure, this is strictly up to our discretion to review and advise on the possibility. Depending on the situation, please be informed that you may be charged an additional service fee of SGD50 per pass reissuance, and this has to be done before your departure from Singapore; subjected to our office opening hours (9am to 6pm, Mon to Fri).

  1. The name on the ticket corresponds to the name on the passport of the traveller.
  2. He or she must not be working or residing in Japan. Please note that they are able to purchase discounted Japan Rail tickets directly from the train stations in Japan.

However, it is recommended that you purchase the ticket for yourself to prevent confusion at the train ticket counter.
The pass is non-transferable; it is not possible to activate the JR Pass on behalf of someone else. You must be present in order to exchange the Exchange Order for JR Pass, your passport and identity is used as verification.
You can collect your Japan Rail Pass Exchange Order (EO) at any of the preferred Changi Recommends booths, located across the four terminals of Singapore Changi Airport terminals – departure hall only. The counters open 24 hours daily.

If you would like to change your collection terminal or collection date, please write in to call@changirecommends.com.sg at least 2 working days in advance to allow ample time for us to process your request.

Take note: For any last-minute amendment requests before/upon collection, you may be subjected to pay a processing fee of SGD50 per pass if you should require to amend your name, change your collection terminal or date and, this is subjected to availability and fare conditions. Any reissuance from 1st Oct 2023 will be subjected to price hike changes and you will be asked to top up the differences for affected passes. Please check with us if in doubt.

Upon booking and successful payment, you will first receive a confirmation email from Changi Recommends.

We will issue electronic exchange vouchers for some specific passes mentioned in the product name tagged with (Electronic EO). Please read product description before you book.

The electronic exchange voucher will be issued and emailed to the same email address according to the Collection Date indicated during your booking process. Before departure, please check your email (including junk mail folder) to ensure that you receive an email with the attachment for the electronic exchange voucher and follow instructions on the email.

You will not be able to collect the physical exchange voucher at our Changi Recommends booths for the mentioned specific passes tagged with (Electronic EO).

For passes that are not tagged with (Electronic EO), you will have to proceed to the collection point on the collection date indicated in your booking to collect the printed physical exchange order. We will not be able to issue electronic copies for this as this will not be accepted for exchange in Japan.

Unused Japan Rail Pass Exchange Orders may be returned to Changi Recommends within 180 days from the date of purchase as long as the Exchange Order has not been turned in for a Japan Rail Pass. Stolen, damaged or misplaced Exchange Orders will not be valid for return. Do note that there will be a 10% administrative fee and a 90-day processing time.

Customers are entitled to one change of collection date and for any change, please email to call@changirecommends.com.sg at least 3 working days before original collection date, subjected to review and approval.

If there were mistake(s) in the voucher issued in September 2023 or if you would like to make any changes that result in your order to be reissued from 1st October 2023 onwards - these unfortunately will be reissued at the new price in any case after October 1st 2023 (applicable to some specific products with price hikes) You will have to bear the difference in prices and will be asked to pay the difference for such requests.

If the trip is postponed, a maximum 6 months extension of JR Pass collection date can be requested,however, you may be required to top up the difference in prices for pass reissuance, if applicable.

Refunds of your Japan Rail Pass in Japan can be processed at any Japan Rail Pass office, provided that they are processed before the start date of your pass. However, we strongly recommend to return your passes for refunds in Singapore if you’ve purchased it with Changi Recommends online or at our counter. Please note that there will be a 10% administrative fee levied for such cases. Passes cannot be refunded if the start date has passed.

The type of passes available and suitable for you differ very much based on your itinerary.

For instance, you may consider getting Hokkaido regional passes if your trip is entirely within Hokkaido. This grants you full access to the entirety of Hokkaido for a select number of days.

Alternatively, if you intend to visit many different parts of Japan on your trip, you may wish to get the national pass as it covers the whole of the Japanese archipelago.
Any non-Japanese national who visits Japan as a tourist or with a Temporary Visitor status is eligible.

Japanese citizens are NOT eligible for the pass, unless they are Permanent Residents of another country or married to a non-Japanese residing in another country outside of Japan, Foreigners visiting for non-tourism purposes (Eg Work, military, diplomatic, cultural, research etc.), or holding a long-term visa (Eg. Student instructor or work) are similarly NOT eligible for the pass.

You will need to present the Exchange Order for your JR pass at a Japan Rail Office (available in Japan airports and main train stations). You will be requested to fill in a form with your details and the passport entry stamp at the Japan Rail Office. JAPAN RAIL OFFICES AND SERVICE HOURS

Remember to collect your Physical Exchange Order from Changi Recommends counter (selected during your booking process) before checking in for your flight. For some *specific passes (particularly under JR West and Kyushu), we will issue electronic exchange voucher instead and this will be sent to your email. Do check your email for exchange instructions at least before 1 day before your flight as you will not be able to collect the physical copy over the airport counters for the abovementioned *specific passes.

You will need to select a date you wish to use the pass when you exchange the Exchange Order for your pass at the JR Pass Office. The JR Pass has to be utilised within 30 days of the exchange.
Most JR Passes are valid for consecutive days use from your preferred starting date selected on the Exchange Order. The pass remains valid for the given period of consecutive days even if you do not use it daily.

Please note however that there are certain passes that allow for flexibility of use within a certain number of days, for example 4 days of usage within a period of 6 days.

Validity period of these Japan Rail Passes are counted in full days, not 24-hour periods. For example, using your pass at 9am on day 1 and 8am on day 2 will be counted as two separate uses of the pass.
Children of age 5 and below can travel for free with a pass holder, but they are not entitled to a seat. If you wish to secure a seat for your child, you will need to purchase a Child Pass.

Children ages between 6 and 11 years old will require a Child Pass. Children above 12 years old will require an Adult Pass.
Green Pass is equivalent to first class cabin (also known as Green Car) on all Shinkansen and some of the fast trains. You can locate this carriage with its green clover icon on the side of the carriage. This pass lets you enjoy your journey in comfort with a large reclined seat, ample leg space, integrated radio and luggage space.

Green Pass is usually recommended for peak travel seasons (May, August and September) as they are generally less crowded than the normal carriages.
Unlike the normal tickets, the JR Pass does not work with the automatic gates. Please show your pass to the train staff, in the glass booth next to the gate, for them to let you through.
You will need to select a date you wish to use the pass when you exchange the Exchange Order for your pass at the JR Pass Office. The JR Pass has to be utilised within 30 days of the exchange.

If you are travelling in a group and would like to sit together, we suggest that you apply for seat reservations. Seat reservations are free for JR Pass holders at Midori No Madoguchi.

Kindly take note of the peak hours when you are commuting. Peak hours are usually between 0700 hours and 0900 hours, or 1800 hours and 2000 hours. Please be advised that trains can get booked out several days in advance during public holidays such as Bank Holidays.
A Nationwide Japan Rail Pass allows you to board on the majority of trains that run on the JR railway network, including regional routes such as JR Kyushu, JR East, JR West, JR Central, JR Shikoku and JR Hokkaido. You will have access to local and express trains, fast bullet trains, and the 'Shinkansen' on the Hikari or Sakura lines.

The Japan Rail Pass is not valid for: Private Rail Lines, Super Express-Only Shinkansen trains 'Nozomi' and 'Mizuho', subways or trams within cities, sleeper wagons/ private wagons in night trains, and special compartments for which you will have to pay an extra fee.

If the JR train uses non-JR tracks during its route, additional fares may be required for that part of the trip. Payment is done either before boarding or after boarding the train.

JR Hokkaido Bus, JR Bus Tohoku, JR Bus Kanto, JR Tokai Bus, JR Shikoku, West Japan JR Bus, Chugoku JR Bus, and JR Kyushu Bus.

Note: Japan Rail Pass is NOT valid for travel on express bus routes or highway buses. *Validity for particular routes is subject to change

You can also access the JR Miyajima Ferry with your JR Pass (not inclusive of the ferry to Korea).
Unfortunately, you will need to purchase a new pass again as there is no replacement for any lost or stolen passes.
There are smoking and non-smoking carriages. Please board the appropriate carriage if you wish to smoke on the train.

Terms & Conditions

Eligibility

  • JR Pass is a tourist-exclusive pass that is only applicable to non-Japanese residents whom entered Japan with a "Temporary Visitor" status.
  • Should you enter Japan with a military/business/diplomatic visa i.e. APEC Business Card, you are not allowed to exchange for the JR Pass

Validilty

  • The Exchange Order of the JR Pass is valid for 90 days from the date of issue.
  • To exchange your JP pass in Japan, visit any of the JR offices, located in airports and main train stations. You will need to present the Exchange Order and your passport to redeem your JR pass.
  • The start date of your JP pass will have to be dated within 30 days of redemption.
  • You can only select your seat after turning in your Exchange Order for JR pass.
    • For seat reservation, you will have to approach the JR staff at the Ticket Office in Japan to make the arrangement.

Prices

  • Payment will be received upon checkout and not during collection of JR pass.
  • New rates will apply from October 1st 2023 (issue date) for some rail passes as dictated by Japan Rail company. Please check website for new rates.
  • Prices are subjected to changes anytime without prior notice, please refer to the website for latest updates.
  • All prices indicated and booked are subjected to changes imposed by the Japan Rail Company. Changi Recommends reserves the rights to reject or cancel reservations affected by price hikes.

Refunds and Returns

  • Any JR Pass Exchange Orders may be returned to Changi Recommends within 180 days from date of purchase, if the below following conditions are fulfilled:
    1. The Exchange Order has not been turned in for a JR Pass.
    2. The Exchange Order has not been stolen or lost.
    3. It must be the original physical copy of the Exchange Order, and this has to be returned to any of our counters located at Changi Airport T1/2/3/4 departure hall.
    4. A photo image of the complete physical copy of the Exchange Order has to be emailed to: call@changirecommends.com.sg prior to the return of the physical copy mentioned above.
  • In any case of refunds or returns in Singapore, you will need to contact Changi Recommends at call@changirecommends.com.sg and fill up a refund form after having fulfilled the above conditions mentioned.
  • In any case of returns in Japan, the JR Pass can be turned in at any of the JR Pass exchange offices for a refund, prior to the start date for the use of the pass. We strongly recommend to return your passes for refunds in Singapore if you’ve purchased it with Changi Recommends online or at our counter.
  • 10% of the price of the JR Pass will be charged as handling fee for refunds - applicable for online purchases only.
  • For walk-in purchases at the counter, please check with the customer service team at +65 6701 1185 for applicable handling fee for refunds.

Amendments and Changes
